Happy 4th of July! (Belated)

I hope everyone had a stellar 4th of July! I’d rate mine a 7 (out of 10). My parent’s summer house overlooks Portland Harbor, so we had a few family friends over to watch the fireworks. Then I headed out drinking in the woods with some children who were a good 7 years under the legal drinking limit. I felt wayyy too old, so we headed to a bar, where we felt too young. Where did all the 22 year olds in the world go?

Anyway, I wanted to share an adorable bag I received as a graduation present:

This bag has been my best friend this summer, I take it to the beach, on overnights, I even use it as my cooler when I’m drinking. I LOVE IT! It’s made by Second Wind Sails (http://www.secondwindsails.net), and as the company name alludes to, the bags are made from recycled sails! My particular bag has a great starfish detail, and the sturdy handles are made from seatbelts. I love, love, love it, and I encourage everyone to check out their great site!

So I am thinking since I spend a lot of time on youtube, I’ll try and post my daily favorites. I have a lot of favorites, but this one holds a special place in my heart. My dearest gay friend showed it to me, and now, whenever I’ve had a little too much to drink, I am told I often go around screaming “WHAT WHAT IN THE BUTT!!!” to people. Whoops.

5th time is a charm?

Today, I had my 5th interview since graduating at the end of May. The company is a small interactive agency located in Boston.

I know that they say that the more interviews you have the better you get, but I don’t feel any more confident. Today, the president of the company (seriously, it’s that small that the president interviewed me) asked me to give a good example of “how I thought outside the box”. Umm, wtf, seriously? I had no idea how to answer that. I don’t even know what I said. Why can’t interviews just be based on looks and personality, not how much or what you know! That’s my opinion anyway…

I also have trouble answering when they ask what my salary requirements are. I just graduated, I have no idea! Plus, all my professors always told me not to answer that question. Well that’s fine, but the guy today kept badgering me, “Well you must have an idea…no…or a number…no…are you sure?” yes I’m sure, I’m retarded and know nothing!

I have another interview on Monday, hopefully this place will judge me more based on my looks.

I want to meet this kid!

Unemployment is good for…reading?

Since I’m unemployed, I spend a lot of time sitting on my deck and reading. Might I say, my tan is looking dayummm good! Since my graduation at the end of May, I’ve read four books, and I’m well into my fifth. Take a look at what I’ve been reading…

Tucker Max is my hero. Some might find him reprehensible, but I think he’s utterly hilarious. He describes himself as a total prick, yet women LOVE him. I had a friend go to a book signing of his, and she followed him around all night hoping to get laid. This man has quite the effect on ladies.

I had read all of Jen Lancaster’s previous books (Bitter Is The New Black & Bright Lights, Big Ass) and I am happy to report Such A Pretty Fat did not disappoint! Lancaster’s hilarious tales of her life and struggle losing weight actually made me this for 30 seconds maybe I could do it too. Then I ate a cookie and that idea went to hell, but nonetheless she makes weight loss entertaining!

The Last Summer (of You & Me) is pretty dull. I skimmed through it in one afternoon. I didn’t initially realize that the author, Ann Brashares, was the same author of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, which is pretty good stuff, so you can imagine I was disappointed when I realized how different her works were. The Last Summer (of You & Me) is about two sisters (one apparently might be gay?) who summer on Fire Island in New York. Both sisters have strong connections with their male neighbor, with whom they have grown up with. Basically, that’s what it’s about. Oh, and the older sister dies. Seriously, I don’t recommend it.

Currently, I am on page 104 of Jodi Picoult’s Nineteen Minutes. Picoult’s books usually suck me in, and this one doesn’t disappoint so far. The basic premise of this book is a school shooting in a small New Hampshire town, and Picoult does her usually fabulous job of drawing the characters in and making ties that you’d never expect. I am dying to know what caused the boy to shoot up the school, and why one girl (who witnessed the shooting) can’t seem to remember anything. I’ll let you know how it finishes up!

I am easily entertained.

As a recent college graduate, I am in the same boat as a lot of my fellow graduates. That’s right, JOBLESS. Awesome. My parents are so proud (read: pissed) that they spent $160,000 on my college education for me to end up sitting jobless at their summer home in Maine. So what if I’m not currently living in the apartment they’re paying $850 a month for me to live in? I’d much rather sit on my fat ass and eat, tan, and drink at their expense. Sorry parentals, get used to it.

Honestly, I might be more apt to stay in my tiny two bedroom apartment on near Fenway Park (yay red sox!) if my roommate didn’t invite her sister and sister’s boyfriend to our apartment all the time. Don’t get me wrong, I like the sister, I’m just not a fan on watching the bf give the sister massages and watch them take naps in my roommate’s bed (seriously, that happens). That’s not truly the reason I’ve been steering clear of my apartment and roommate though. Recently, at my family’s summer party, (200 people, open bar, craziness obviously ensues) my awesome roommate made awesome decisions, that included hooking up with one of my Dad’s friends. Let’s write this out.

My roommate, who I have recently grown to hate, is 21 years old. Very unattractive, but thinks she’s hot shit (don’t get me wrong, I’m not looker either, but I don’t prance around thinking I’m hotter than Gisele Bündchen) so ANYWAY, my roommate, who I shall call “S” (yes, I am going Gossip Girl on you), decides to hook up with one of my Dad’s buddies, who I will call “X”. So X, an attractive, single, 38 year old man, gets very intoxicated. The party ends and about half the people go home (sensible people), and half proceed to the local bar (stupid people). So we’re all at this bar (yes, I’m stupid) and X makes a pass at me. Yes, I’m wasted, but hi, that’s my Dad’s friend, and I know better. X proceeds to make passes at my friends, A, B, and C. My friends, generally being smart and pretty, passed on the offer. So at some point in the night, I ventured back to my house where I promptly fell into a deep slumber. So the rest of this story is all hearsay, but I have spoken to A, B, C, S, and X, so I have a generally good idea of what happened. Later in the evening, my girls proceeded back to the house they were staying at. X and a friend ended up at the house too, in a pickup truck (wicked classy!). Now at this point, X was really, really, drunk. He had already taken a nap on the bar, and had wandered away from his friend on multiple occasions. So S really, really, really should have known better. As X and friend were sitting the the pickup truck, X was in the front cab and friend was lying in the pickup bed. S apparently hopped into the front of the cab to “chat” with X. From there, she asked X how old he was (38), and then proceeded to tell him she really shouldn’t hook up with him because her friend A really likes him. And then they hooked up.

Now let me ask you, if your friend really liked someone, would you hook up with them?! If you’re a good friend, then hell NO. Also, if this guy had tried to hook up with 4 of your other friends, and they all refused them (and by the way–they’re all single too), would you hook up with them? I would hope not. Otherwise, you probably shouldn’t be reading this blog.

So, I’d say that in general is why I’ve been living at my parent’s summer house in Maine, and not really too motivated to be in Boston. So perhaps I can blame my unemployment on my roommate? Nah, I’m not that much of an ass. But she is my last nerve…if this stuff keeps up, I might have to “lose” the mail key, or if I’m feeling really bitchy, maybe I’ll drink her milk.
